Marek Bekerman – Managing Director

Read More Marek Bekerman had spent 21 years in various reporting and editorial positions with BBC Global News in London before moving into international journalism training and media development. Since 2004, he has travelled extensively in the Former Soviet Union countries and the Middle East on training assignments and consultancy missions. In 2012, he designed a comprehensive reform programme of the Georgian Public Broadcaster for the European Commission, and between 2010 and 2012, he coordinated international efforts to reform and modernise Turkmenistan’s media legislation and regulation. He was Project Director for the EC-funded media development project in Central Asia between 2007 and 2009, and journalism education expert for a BBC-led project to modernise media education in Ukraine in 2005-2007. As a Team Leader for an EC project to maintain relations between Russian and European think-tanks and journalists, Marek designed and organised a series of meetings and conferences in several European capitals in 2015-16 in close cooperation with the EU Delegation to Moscow, and in 2016-17, he was a key media expert for DANIDA in a project to shape future CSO and media development programmes funded by the Foreign Ministry of Denmark in several Eastern Partnership countries. Marek led a project in developing fact-checking and improving media literacy in Central Asia for Albany Associates in 2017-2019, and has worked on numerous assignments for the Council of Europe, the European Commission, the UNDP, the OSCE, FCO and other agencies. He speaks fluently and works in English, Russian and Polish.
