Marek is an executive producer of more than a dozen documentary films on social issues shot on locations in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan by small crews of young, local filmmakers trained on the spot and editorially overseen by his project team. As a grassroots initiative, the films were not widely distributed in the face of censorship and institutional hostility to external productions with Western participation. Several have been recently reedited with added English and Russian subtitles and properly published as a legacy to democratising initiatives drawing on the culture of public service broadcasting.

We have produced more than a dozen documentary films with local filmmakers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan about the lives of women and children in the region. Several of them went on to win prizes and awards despite difficulties in having some of them broadcast in state or official media.
